about
Born within a former nuclear testing site in the Kazakh Steppes, my personal story started at the land that no longer permits human presence. Following a forced odyssey from East to West, the need for masking my cultural heritage became apparent. The sense of being uprooted grew into the ambivalent state of freedom and desire to unmute the memories.
I practice a unique painting technique. Rooted in the rhythms of traditional calligraphy, I stripped language of its literal meaning to leave only its kinetic energy. The importance of these brush strokes is affirmed throughout the practice, making the body both: tool and motif.
Through painting, drawing, and performance, my aim is to create spaces of perception where the body, memory, and life can be explored.
My upcoming solo show in Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne, France explores childhood memories, mental landscapes, and the ecosystem change that inevitably alters our views on the familiar places.
The Craft.
I believe in the sentiment that the tool should be born for the artwork, to respond to the artist’s hand.
At the heart of my practice is a commitment to eco-artistry. I use traditional technique of handcrafted egg tempera, combined with natural pigments. These pigments are formed from centuries of earth layering or made from crushed plants. The colours carry diverse heritage of the nations who sourced them, care, and thoughtful luxury.
The process of mixing tempera emulsion requires patience, precision, and an advanced understanding of natural pigment chemistry. Often sourced from multiple regions, pigments produce unpredictable tones and textures.
This is the beauty of organic, divine nature.
